Purpose of The Appendix Found!!!
I know that God would not put something (go to the trouble to create) in the body
that would have no purpose, although this is exactly what scientists have believed
of the appendix. That is until recently... Some scientists from Duke University
Medical School think they have figured out the real job of the "troublesome" and
"seemingly useless" appendix: It produces and protects good germs (probiotics) for
your gut.
For generations the appendix has been dismissed as superfluous. Doctors figured it
had no function. Surgeons removed them routinely.... and they "thought" that people
lived fine without them. It is true... when infected the appendix can turn deadly.
It gets inflamed quickly and some people die if it isn't removed in time. Two years
ago, 321,000 Americans were hospitalized with appendicitis, according to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The function of the appendix seems related to the massive amount of bacteria
populating the human digestive system, according to the study in the Journal of
Theoretical Biology. There are more bacteria than human cells in the typical body.
Most are good and help digest food. But sometimes the flora of bacteria in the
intestines die or are purged. Diseases such as cholera or amoebic dysentery would
clear the gut of useful bacteria. The appendix's job is to reboot the digestive
system in that case. Antibiotic drugs do not just kill the pathogenic bacteria in
the body... but the good and necessary bacteria which totally disturbs the ecosystem
balance of the body (often causing diarrhea and candida overgrowth, etc.). If
someone HAS an appendix, it can help replenish that good and necessary bacteria...
but how does one do so if their appendix has been removed?
Supplementing massive doses of probiotics is important and helpful, but most people
just don't take enough.
Recent studies show that an adult healthy digestive system has 4-7 pound - yes,
POUNDS of good bacteria in the gut. If these have all been killed due to a course of
antiobiotics, that's a lot to replace. Studies show that INFANTS with colic need at
least 15 billion colony units daily to reduce or aid symptoms... studies have not
been done to show the optimal adult dosage. Let's see a baby weighs about 12 pounds,
I weigh almost 10 times more than that... I thank God no overanxious surgeon has
ripped out one of my vital organs (the lowly appendix).
The appendix "acts as a good safe house for bacteria," said Duke surgery professor
Bill Parker, a study co-author. Its location _ just below the normal one-way flow of
food and germs in the large intestine in a sort of gut cul-de-sac -- helps support
the theory, he said. The worm-shaped organ outgrowth acts like a bacteria factory,
cultivating the good germs, Parker said.
The theory led Gary Huffnagle, a University of Michigan internal medicine and
microbiology professor, to wonder about the value of another body part that is often
yanked: "I'll bet eventually we'll find the same sort of thing with the tonsils.
Microwave Popcorn Health Alert
September 19th, Washington - A chemical identified by scientists at the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention commonly used as a flavoring agent in microwave
popcorn is the cause of a debilitating and sometimes fatal lung disease.
Major popcorn producers have known for more than a year the secret results of an
Environmental Protection Agency study of potential health risks of Diacetyl in
microwave popcorn. The results of the EPA study still have not been made public.
This chemical is the cause of a debilitating and sometimes fatal lung disease called
bronchiolitis obliterans, or "popcorn lung."
An Associated Press article dated September 5, 2007 reported that recent warnings to
popcorn factory workers about the dangers of lung disease from Diacetyl exposure,
have now been extended to consumers.
Symptoms of bronchiolitis obliterans, often
referred to as “popcorn lung” include:
- Fixed airway obstruction
- Scarring of the lung
- Inflammation of the lung
- Dry cough
- Shortness of breath
- Diminished lung capacity
A pulmonary specialist at the National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver,
Colorado contacted various federal agencies informing them that he believed that he
has a patient who developed lung disease from the fumes of microwaving popcorn
several times a day for years. Investigations are still being conducted to
understand the potential harms of microwave popcorn consumption, research results
have yet to be released.
If you or anyone you know eats Microwave Popcorn please have them visit this site
for more information:
Popcorn
If you like popcorn... there's nothing wrong with making it the old-fashion-way on
the stove top or one of those "automatic spinners" remember the kind that came out
in the '70's?, and use sea salt and real butter - not all these fake chemicals that
God didn't create.
Reminds me of the story where Jesus and the disciples got in trouble for eating corn
right out of the field - note it doesn't mention anything about them cooking it.
Matt 12:1 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn;
and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.
FDA Panel Recommends Ban on Cold Medicines for Kids
Got Kids? Grandkids? READ THIS...
Imagine your 2 year old gets a cold and in their misery you go out and get some
Toddler's Dimetapp, Triaminic Infant or Little Colds - assuming of course that if
it's on the market, it must be safe... not having a clue that these products have
NEVER even been tested for safety on infants. They really don't even know what the
safe dose is and they really don't know how much is lethal. You probably had no clue
it even could be lethal... but neither did 123 other moms.
FRIDAY, Oct. 19 (HealthDay News) -- A U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory
panel on Friday recommended a ban on over-the-counter cough and cold medicines for
children younger than 6. Citing a number of studies that showed the remedies were no
better than a placebo, the outside experts also recommended the drugs be tested on
children to see if they are effective. The evidence that the drugs work is "modest
at best" even for adults, said Dr. Mary E. Tinetti, chairwoman of the FDA panel and
a professor at Yale University School of Medicine, according to The New York Times.
In two separate votes at the end of two days of hearings on the safety of the drugs
for children, the advisers said the medicines shouldn't be used in children younger
than 2 or in those younger than 6. A third vote, to recommend against use in
children aged 6 to 11, failed, the Associated Press reported. The vote for
additional testing of the drugs in children preceded the votes to ban the products.
The recommendations apply to medicines containing at least one of the following
ingredients: decongestants, expectorants, antihistamines and antitussives, the AP
reported. The FDA does not have to follow its advisory panels' recommendations, but
usually does.
"The recommendations may not lead to a ban of these products, but to a warning on
the label," Dr. John K. Jenkins, the director of FDA's Office of New Drugs in the
Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, said during a late Friday press conference.
"The message of the panel is that they haven't seen scientific evidence that these
products work in children, and they were uneasy about extrapolating the adult doses
for children. Parents should pay close attention to the directions on the label," he
added.
A ban already has the support of safety experts at the FDA, who published a 365-page
review last month that showed decongestants and antihistamines have been linked with
123 pediatric deaths since 1969.
"This recommendation is exactly what is needed to alert parents and policymakers
about the erroneous labeling, marketing, and use of these products. Moreover, these
medicines are ineffective and dangerous to young children," Bruce Lesley, president
of the children's advocacy group First Focus.
The products covered in the debate include approximately 800 popular medicines sold
in the United States under names such as Toddler's Dimetapp, Triaminic Infant and
Little Colds. Experts estimate that Americans spend about $2 billion annually on
these types of medications. Last week, leading drug makers announced a voluntary
withdrawal of oral cough and cold medicines marketed for use in infants (but not
those intended and labeled for use in children aged 2 and older).
The panel should recommend that the FDA carefully reevaluate their existing approval
of cough and cold preparations being marketed to children under 6," says Dr. Michael
Shannon, chief of the division of emergency medicine at Children's Hospital Boston.
In addition, these cold products simply don't work, according to Shannon. "There is
no reason to give something that costs money, is ineffective, and has potential risks,"
he said.
As for child safety, the CHPA said that "serious adverse events associated with
over-the-counter cough and cold medicines are very rare," and are almost always
caused by overdose, "which underscores the need for proper storage and safekeeping
of these medicines."

Isaiah 43:15-21
From Day By Day By Grace by Bob Hoekstra / October 28
Abraham's Patient, Heavenly Pilgrimage, by Faith
And truly if they had called to mind that country from which
they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return.
But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore
God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a
city for them. Hebrews 11:15-16
Abraham (and his family) lived as "strangers and pilgrims on the earth"
(Hebrews 11:13). He lived as an obedient sojourner here on earth, trusting God to
lead him about as one who was in the world, but not of the world. He also lived as
a patient, heavenly pilgrim, trusting God to lead him eventually to the eternal
homeland that awaits all who have saving faith in the Lord. We have a similar
calling from the Lord. "Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain
from fleshly lusts which war against the soul" (1 Peter 2:11).
